APEX Fellowships offer structured and mentored support to students engaged in summer internships or vocational exploration programs. This competitive award allows students opportunities to gain valuable experience in their field of interest, network with professionals, and reflect on their experience and how it pertains to their future goals and plans.
APEX Fellows receive up to $4,000 for experiences lasting at least 6 weeks and 225 hours.

APEX Fellowship Awardees
Additional Funding Option – Andrew Scholar Award
Thanks to the generosity of the Andrew Family, APEX provides an additional $500 for up to 10 APEX Fellows each year. Award recipients are chosen based on their application materials and willingness to complete additional professional development assignments including creating a 2–3-minute film of their internship experience and presenting it during Homecoming Weekend. Applicants will answer a question in the application whether they would like to be considered for the award.

Taxes
It is possible that APEX Fellows will pay taxes on the award. This depends on how much has been earned in the tax reporting year. An APEX Fellow is responsible for reporting the to the IRS. For specific questions, consult a tax advisor for answers. International Students could have as much as 30% withheld from the APEX Fellowship. If you have specific questions about the amount of tax withholding, please confer with Student Employment.
Students will be enrolled in a course on the Moodle Platform to complete the following:

If you are participating in an internship outside the U.S. or your home country, you must sign up for BCBS Global Solutions international insurance several weeks before your departure date.
For safety reasons, you will NOT be allowed to go on this internship without this insurance. Other insurance does not apply here.

If you are doing your internship in the United States, you must meet with International Student Services several weeks before your starting date to make sure you understand and comply with all regulations related to your visa and sign up for Curricular Practical Training (CPT). You will not be allowed to go on this internship without CPT.
The Micro Fellowship program offers small stipends for short-term internships, where students engage in a work environment that provides them with relevant experiences and helps clarify their post-graduation goals. Designed for unpaid or underpaid (under $15/hour) internships, these fellowships are perfect for job shadowing, short term projects, and hands-on learning.
The Winter & Summer Micro Fellowships require slightly different information. Please make sure to carefully follow the directions for the fellowship to which you are applying.
