Border Studies Program (Earlham College) – Environmental Justice and Sustainability in the Borderlands
Pathway: Activism & Social ChangePathway: Environmental Communication & ActionPathway: Global Impacts
The Earlham College Border Studies Program (BSP) is excited to announce an emerging thematic track for praxis and exploration: Environmental Justice and Sustainability in the Borderlands.
In addition to themes of indigenous struggles, traditional ecological knowledge, transnational migration, the militarization of the borderlands, creative writing for social justice, and contemporary social movements, students of the fall 2024 cohort will have the opportunity to take a deeper dive into questions of land and water use, resource extraction, environmental racism, climate change, food justice, and sustainability.
This will be a decolonial, multi-disciplinary track within the larger Border Studies Program intersectional pedagogy. Students choosing to join the Environmental Justice and Sustainability in the Borderlands thematic track will be placed with a field study placement specializing in these questions. Additionally, course content will be included to allow students to analyze, reflect, and write about these issues. Day trips and travel excursions will also include focus and connection to community members specializing in environmental justice and sustainability.
March 15th is the deadline for priority applications, and BSP will accept applications on a rolling basis, until the program is full, or until April 15th.
