VTPrivateye, LLC’s investigative internship program is a very hands-on internship, where college interns shadow our investigators on our daily case work, and act as note takers and investigative assistants. Interns help out with drafting memos, drafting record requests and help with social media research, background checks, subpoena service and more. Excellent writing and interpersonal skills are requirements. Investigative interns have been an integral part of our team at VTPrivateye for over 20 years. Every fall & spring semester, and for some January breaks, and each summer we have openings for college students to intern part-time (minimum 15 hours/week) and full-time at VTPrivateye, LLC. Summer internships generally run from June 1st to mid August. Some colleges award college credit, or a stipend, so it may be worth investigating that first. Interns accompany experienced licensed investigators into the field to do surveillance, interview fact and mitigation witnesses, and shadow while investigators conduct intake interviews at correctional facilities with defendants. We have over 100 years of experience on our team, so there are great opportunities for mentorship. Many interns have said that they feel they have a front row seat on the criminal justice system while interning with VTPrivateye. Interns are often in and out of attorneys’ offices, state offices, witnesses’ homes, jails, and state and federal court. Our college interns do real work on serious felony criminal cases. If you are curious about the law, social work, sociology, and/or psychology, and want to make a difference in many vulnerable defendants’ lives, this is a great chance to spend some weeks with boots on the ground to see if work in the criminal justice system is a good fit for you. We just moved into a cool new huge office/loft space in Vergennes, Vermont and welcome new energy & insight to our team!
