Position summary: Residential advisors monitor student that live on residential floors to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations of the Center. She/he fosters an atmosphere conducive to character development through the encouragement of favorable behavior patterns. He/she facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance in the event of injury, illness, traumatic experience, and emotionalism; responsible for documenting student activity and incidences.
Essential responsibilities:
- Monitor group living conditions, evaluate situation within the dormitories and make decisions and/or recommendations while ensuring safety and proper student behavior
- Perform duties involving student passes, leaves, evaluations, progress reports, emergencies and terminations for assigned shift
- Communicate with families of students as required to resolve problems and assure the wellbeing of students
- Coordinate activities of dormitories including recreation and entertainment on and off center, dorm competitions, dorm courts, and after hours tutoring and learning activities
- Facilitate Career Success Standards (CSS) group sessions for students and provide guidance in CSS development; maintain documentation
- Maintain required records and update CIS information on students on a regular and timely basis
- Function as center duty officer (CDO) as assigned
Education and experience requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience working with youth (paid or volunteer)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Computer proficiency
- A valid driver license with an acceptable driving record is required

About Job Corps: Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. A Job Corps campus is like a mini college. It has dormitories, classrooms, a dining hall, and recreational and medical facilities. Training is open entry, open exit and can last up to two years. Students work at their own pace, guided by academic and career training instructors who are committed to their success. The Job Corps program is authorized by Title I-C of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (supersedes WIA 1998).
