Purpose of Position/Summary:
The Indiana State Museum is seeking an Early Childhood Summer Program Intermittent to assist with Early Childhood summer camps and programming for June-August 2024. There will also be a mandatory training date on May 24, 2024. This position is in the Programs and Education Engagement department. This person will work an average of 21 hours a week per week, but the schedule will vary depending on program needs. The hourly pay for this position is $16.72.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with facilitating camp and program activities and encouraging youth in hands-on activities, while modifying program activities as needed to better meet the needs of each child.
- Assist with preparation of materials and coordinating supplies for camp and program activities.
- Supervise incoming 4-6 year old campers and follow museum and camp procedures.
- Mentor and encourage experimentation and creativity in children through open-ended, sensory, STEM and art activities.
- Model leadership, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn and explore with visitors.
- Assist with set-up/clean-up of activities including before/after games and activities.
- Assist with evaluation of activities and share feedback with the early childhood program manager.
- Provide a safe environment for play, learning, and discovery with children and their adults.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree or degree seeking preferred.
- Experience working with preschool and toddler aged children.
- Strong communications skills with both children and adults.
- Exhibit excellent public speaking skills, enthusiasm and creativity while interacting with visitors of all ages and abilities.
- Collaborative personality and a team player.
- Ability to maintain visitors’ safety and wellbeing.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
- Ability to work from 8:30-2:30 Monday-Friday for the weeks of June 10-14, June 24-28, and July 15-19, as well as the following days: June 6, June 18, July 11, July 30 and July 31.
- This position will also assist in early childhood programs throughout June, July, and August as needed. The program day hours are from 9:30-1:30 or 8:30-12:30 depending on program needs. There will be one event day on June 15th that will require this position to be available from 9:30-5:30.
- There will be a mandatory training date on May 24, 2024.
- This is a temporary position.
Physical effort:
- Educators must move within the classroom.
- Educators must assist with set-up of tables, chairs, and program supplies.
- Educators work primarily inside the museum building with recess outside for 30 minutes, weather permitting.
This position reports directly to the Early Childhood Program Manager and works closely with Program and Education Engagement staff.
