Drawing upon the resources of the College of Wooster Special Collections, the Wayne County Historical Society, and the Wayne County Public Library—as well as the memories and expertise of local residents and historians—this site explores the fascinating history of Wooster and its environs. Currently, visitors will find app-based walking tours, exhibits on agriculture, commerce, industry, and education, and links for further exploration. These are just a start of a continuing project, spearheaded by the Department of History, to document Wooster’s history and explore the experiences of local inhabitants. Each year faculty, students, and collaborative partners contribute new material. In order to enhance a comprehensive and representative history, we intend to increase the complexity of our research topics and methods. To start, the summer 2017 research team, deepened the narrative of Wooster and Wayne County’s agricultural history. Student research assistants in 2018 further investigated Wooster’s connection to farming by creating a downtown walking tour that highlights local food history. Most recently, the 2019 team developed a new website for the Wayne County Historical Society!
