The Office of Experiential Learning and Community Engagement (ELCE) in APEX is launching a Micro Fellowship program for summer and winter break internships. Students are able to participate in the Micro-Fellowship twice during their time at Wooster.
Who is this for?
- Students with unpaid internships (remote or on-site; winter or summer break) who have not received funding from other College of Wooster sources –OR-
- Students who have on-site internships that are paid or stipended internships at a rate under $15/hr who need to pay for housing and/or transportation costs – AND-
- Students who are rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors
- Students who are enrolled at The College of Wooster or in an endorsed off-campus study program the semesters preceding and following the internship summer
What is it?

****Note: $1,000 is only available for the summer of 2024. Future years will return to the regular amount of $600.
- For this summer only: $1,000 for unpaid internships (remote or on-site)
- up to $1,000 to offset costs of housing and travel for on-site paid internships (under $15/hour)
Note: funds are typically available mid-February for the Winter Break Micro-Fellowship and early September for the Summer Break Micro-Fellowship.
An opportunity to make explicit connections between a Wooster education and future opportunities.
Recipients will be enrolled in a course on the Training Moodle platform and will:
- Complete a Career Exploration activity
- Submit a 500-750 word written reflection responding to prompts ELCE provides
- Submit 3-4 photos of themselves engaged in their internship
- Any student receiving funding who is also doing an IDPT 415-no tuition-0.25 credit internship will create a poster for and present at Black & Gold weekend
Who is eligible? Students who
- Have an internship for at least 85 hours in duration (up from 45 due to the increase in funds)
- that starts on or after December 13, 2024 and ends by January 14, 2025 (Winter) -or-
- that starts on or after May 13, 2024 and ends by August 16, 2024 (Summer) -or-
- Are in good academic standing
- Are in good standing under the code of Academic Integrity & Social Responsibility
- Verify acceptance of internship
- Verify housing and travel costs if receiving compensation for their internship
Internships that are ineligible for funding including working:
- for a College of Wooster office / program
- with a College of Wooster professor on a research project
- at your family’s enterprise
- under the direct supervision of a family member
- in any other situation that does not follow best practice as evaluated by ELCE
What about international students with F-1 visas?
Students may intern in their home country with no additional requirements.
Students interning while in the U.S. (on-site or remote) must follow all requirements related to registering for credit and CPT and verifying the internship is directly related to their major. Students should make appointments with ISS and the Associate Dean for Experiential Learning in APEX.
How are funds distributed?
Funds are awarded after we receive
- a signed acceptance letter
- internship hours are completed and verified
- Moodle assignments are submitted and checked for thoroughness.
Completed submissions made over the summer will be paid during the fall semester. All payments will be made by direct deposit to student’s U.S. bank account.
What is the deadline for applying?
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and students are encouraged to apply early in case funds run out.
