PATH 4400X Assignment Details – ACTS, DIVI, HLTH, MUTD
Below, you’ll see the specific assignment details from Moodle for students who need to complete the work when the Moodle is unavailable. Assignments will need to be saved and uploaded to the course Moodle when it becomes available. Not all assignments can be done ahead of time, but this can give you a head start.
PATH 440 has:
- 1 poster & presentation
- 2 written assignments
- 2-4 forms/surveys (depending on your Pathway)
1. Final Pathway Reflection (Poster)
Note: This Assignment includes several steps, all of which are VERY important. Please read these details carefully and then complete all the steps.
- Reflect on your overall Pathways & career development experience:
- Academic courses for the Pathway
- Your Experiential Learning (EL) experience(s)
- Your reflections and self-assessments along the way
- Networking opportunities and experiences in the Pathway community
- Other professional development work done while in the Pathway
- Your overall growth as a professional and any changes in your career trajectory
- Design a poster to clearly, succinctly, and professionally convey how these experiences have changed you and impacted your career journey and trajectory. You must use the detailed instructions, Canva template, and reflection questions (link here).
- Share your completed poster with the Pathways team on Canva account Pathways@wooster.edu two weeks before you intend to present it, so there is time to review it for any notable errors and get it printed.
- Present the poster at an official Pathways poster session. Email Pathways@wooster.edu and/or check the events list on the Pathways website fore about options and timing for this.
- Upload your poster and receive feedback from your Pathway advisor (depending on your Pathway’s instructions).
3. Update your Professional Resume
Review your resume and bring it up-to-date.
We strongly recommend that you use the resources offered by the Career and Experiential Education (CEE) office (former Career Planning) – including their resume guidebook if you haven’t yet. It would be wise to meet with a CEE staff person to review your professional resume before graduation.
Resume Recommendation Reminders:
- Including your Pathway – Mention it after major/minor if it is relevant to the job. Consider labeling it “Career Focus” or “Concentration” as that will likely mean more to an employer than “Pathway.”
- Resume length – current advice 1-2 pages as appropriate for the amount of experience you have (NOT longer than two pages). Resource. Note: CVs are typically longer and have quite different guidelines from resumes. Be aware of what the employers in your field are looking for.
- Using AI – Review this helpful article. Key points:
- Write your own first draft and use AI only for refining it.
- Always review AI generated content.
- Use the right AI tool for the task you want help with
- Be specific and clear in your AI prompts and requests.
- **Never put your personal info into any AI. Replace such details from the version you put into an AI tool with x’s or fake info. This includes:
- Any names and contact info (including email or LinkedIn).
- Names of schools, employers, or organizations
- Dates
- Format matters A LOT!! Be strategic!
- Watch this video for great tips on making the first 1/3 of your resume truly eye-catching so your resume doesn’t go straight into the trash. Like most people, hiring managers won’t keep reading if the first part doesn’t catch their attention, so fill that first bit very carefully!
- Review this article for up-to-date advice on what sections to include on your resume.
- Do an internet search (or ask AI) for examples of strong resumes in your specific industry. Consider content and wording as well as format and appearance characteristics. You want your resume to look sharp and eye catching in a professional way, which varies somewhat between industries.
- Use industry terminology – Tweak wording and descriptions to include more of the specific professional terms and skills you have in your specific field. Consider incorporating advice from this article about successfully incorporating resume buzzwords.
- DO NOT include your picture on your resume; generally employers don’t want to see them to avoid concerns of unconscious bias and discrimination.
- Remove content from high school. You might be able to include high school experiences IF they are particularly relevant to your career field, but simplify and condense that content as much as possible.
- Avoid using resume creation websites (generally). Typically you will have to pay for an ongoing subscription if you want to be able to update the file rather than start over. Instead, create your own template in MS Word (or similar) so you will be able to keep copies and update it regularly over your career.
- COW’s Digital Media Bar could help you recreate an attractive professional template you find online.
- Ask a COW alum in your field to review your resume and offer feedback. This might be someone you’ve discovered through your Pathway career planning assignments, LinkedIn, Ask A Scot, or conversations with your Pathway faculty/staff team. Start by asking if someone would review your resume for XYZ kind of job. When an alum has agreed to take a look at it, send it to them as a pdf via email.
Upload your updated professional resume as a pdf.
NOTE: When applying for a job, always send your resume as a pdf to avoid formatting oddities.
4. Update your LinkedIn Profile
Update your LinkedIn profile to include all your professional experience. Your audience for this profile includes possible employers and those you might want to make professional connections with, so be careful to make it look and sound appropriate for a professional in your field.
Upload document that includes a screenshot of your profile and a live link to your profile on LinkedIn.
5. Quick Form: Pathways Exit Survey
Take an approximately 5-10-minute Pathways Exit survey. Link will be supplied in your Moodle as we don’t want you to complete this before all elements of your Pathway are complete.
6. Quick Form: Share Your Pathways Experiences?
Complete a 5-minute form to indicate your level of willingness to:
- Allow us to share your final reflection poster.
- Become a Pathways Supporting Alumni.
Public Health students:
Upload the EL Verification form for your second career experience.
