The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.
Description of Job:
As the Supply Chain Manager at Valent BioSciences, you will be responsible for Production planning (finite), material planning, and transactional data entry. You will oversee the short and long-term planning horizon while working collaboratively with the Corporate Supply Chain Planning team, Tolling Manufacture, and internal stakeholders. You will work with the senior supply Chain Manager to establish planning objectives for the plant site and execute inventory targets to meet working capital goals and customer service.
In this role, you must possess a drive for accountability, tactical day-to-day management of the team, foster an environment of trust, give and receive feedback, and be a conduit between the facility leadership and business team managers. You will also work collaboratively with internal team members (Safety, Quality, Compliance, Production, Process/Project Engineering, & Maintenance) to ensure the business processes are adhered to and communicated to provide an optimal production schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Production Planner (Finite Scheduler)
- Oversee Material Planning/Purchase Req release for raw materials used at the site
- Oversee the weekly inventory counts for non-bulk materials
- Ensure production constraints are maintained and adhered to through the planning process
- Manage the Rough-Cut Capacity Plan (RCCP) based on new information
- Coordinate quarterly reviews on manufacturing rates and other known constraints affecting output
- Partner with operations on daily alignment calls and other ad-hoc meetings
- Drive a culture of Lean thinking with focus on problem-solving and root cause, corrective action
- Monitor and communicate performance with Direct Reports every week
- Understand external constraints that may affect Supply Chain, such as raw material availability, equipment constraints
- Maintain a solid collaborative relationship with internal stakeholders
- Developing effective teams and individual talent to ensure succession planning and business continuity.
- Evaluate and recommend processes that align with the day-to-day operation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs for presentation to the Site and Executive Leadership teams.
- Ensure all compliance and safety training is completed on time
- Weekly participation with Key Business Toller on production schedule review
- Provide feedback to the corporate SC Team on the short-term planning horizon (0-3) months
- Expectation on all inputs and outputs in the S&OP meeting cadence
- Accountable for achieving monthly financial goals with results meetings, cost center tracking through variance reporting
Requirements and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Supply Chain Manager or in a similar role with People Management
- ERP or Supply Chain Software (SAP, Access Orchestrate) Database and system implementation.
- Experience with Tolling Manufacturing facilities
- S&OP and Integrated Business Planning
- Lean Manufacturing principles
- Knowledge of procurement processes, Supplier relationships, monitoring and escalating non-conformance, quality, and reliability issues.
- Inventory management and principles such as ABC analysis, safety stock analysis, and inventory approaches
- Analytical and strong Excel knowledge
- Manage in a diverse work environment with independence and limited supervision
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
- Financial acumen relating to distressed and SLOB inventory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supply Chain Management Master’s Degree or MBA
- Certification in Supply Chain Management (APICS, CSPM) is a plus
- Experience in Fermentation Manufacturing or Agricultural/Chemical industry
