Research Microbiologist
Hygieia Biological Laboratories has an immediate opening for a Research Microbiologist to undertake a wide variety of investigational work related to the invention and development of vaccines for veterinary and human applications. We are looking for a seasoned scientist with at least BA/BS/MS level training including five years’ experience encompassing broad exposure to microbiological laboratory methods with particular emphasis upon the propagation and study of fastidious organisms. Experience with or ability to learn a variety of analytical methods is required. We would consider making this a post-doctoral position or higher for the right person.
Job Description
This is primarily a bench position in a fast paced, environment with frequently changing priorities that is principally responsible for evaluating technologies for potential product development and solving a variety of problems with speed and accuracy in laboratory technique.
Early projects include optimization of growth parameters for a variety of fastidious organisms.
The work will primarily take place using BSL-1/2 agents and equipment, but a possibility exists for working with BSL 3 organisms and interest in or exposure to BSL-3 work environments is a plus.
Optimization of growth medias and conditions.
Assist with technology transfer from research to production environments.
Able to learn and back up manufacturing positions occasionally as needed.
Skills and Qualifications

- Excellent microbiological laboratory skills
- Experience with microaerophilic or anaerobic organisms desired
- Virus propagation experience desired
- Cell culture experience desired
- At least basic library skills using the scientific literature
- BS in microbiology or related field with 5 years experience
