Few young investigators get an opportunity to study the immunology of human samples from ongoing clinical trials. This is one such opportunity. The Faustman Lab is running innovative Phase II clinical trials focused on the treatment of type 1 diabetes with a generic drug called the BCG vaccine. Located at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, we are testing the potential of BCG vaccination to potentially reverse type 1 diabetes in adults and children. Please visit www.faustmanlab.org for more information about our work and additional research on other immune disorders, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with an interest in basic and clinical research and who wants to learn human immunology. Through this position, you will have first-hand experience working with real human samples throughout a clinical trial. This position will provide exposure to research related to human disease and an understanding of the importance and challenges of translational research.

Successful applicants will have a strong bench science background and a willingness to learn. Previous experience with ELISAs, cell culture, flow cytometry, the handling and analysis of large data sets or molecular biology is preferred. All applicants must be able to commit to 2 years of work (or more if desired). While we are a close-knit team, there are also ample opportunities for independent research, which can lead to publications in scientific journals. This is an ideal position for candidates wishing to pursue a career in medicine or research or in regulatory medicine. This position allows for a unique opportunity to gain knowledge in immunology.

Additional desired attributes:

· Ability to learn quickly and problem solve

· Advanced quantitative reasoning and data analysis skills

· Meticulous attention to detail, self-directed and responsible

Honesty

· Must be able to spearhead multiple projects while working in a fast-paced environment with a multidisciplinary team

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must

· High competency with Microsoft Office Suite

To apply for this position, please submit your information through Handshake and email a resume, cover letter, and transcript to Serena Bradley (sbradley@mgh.harvard.edu). Hired applicant will start work in May/June of 2026 (or earlier if desired).
