Interested in a unique paid training opportunity in Human Regulatory Medicine? Please read on!

The Faustman Immunobiology Laboratories are running innovative Phase II-III human clinical trials focused on the treatment of type 1 diabetes with a generic drug called the BCG vaccine. Located in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, we are testing the potential of BCG vaccination to potentially reverse the hyperglycemia of type 1 diabetes in adults and children. Please visit www.faustmanlab.org for more information about our work and additional research on other immune disorders, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with an interest in clinical research and who wants to learn about regulatory aspects of clinical trial management. In this position, you will learn how to write human studies protocols and about the auditing and reporting responsibilities of human studies. You will also learn how to consent for clinical trials, how to interface with the IRB and FDA, and about the overall process of moving test drugs into drug approvals. You will gain an understanding of the importance and challenges of translational research, while having extensive patient interaction and gaining blood drawing skills. This unique experience will differentiate you from fellow future MD, DO, or PhD students as you apply for internships, fellowships and even faculty member positions in your future career. In general, similar training programs, including those at Harvard, are post-MD graduate programs. You will learn about bench to bedside translational research in real time.

Successful applicants might have previous experience consenting and enrolling patients in clinical research studies, analyzing research data and designing new studies. All applicants must be able to commit to 2 years of work (or more if desired). If offered the position, exceptional candidates can expect to work on a project that will lead to a publication in a scientific journal. Impeccable organization skills and the ability to effectively communicate with other lab members and patients are a must. We are a non-profit lab looking for an ambitious person who is eager to learn about diabetes and autoimmunity, and who has a drive to learn about Regulatory Medicine early in their career.

Additional desired attributes:

· Basic experience with research study design and data analysis required. Previous experience writing study protocols and working with institutional review boards (IRBs) preferred.

· Must be able to spearhead multiple projects while working in a fast-paced environment with a multidisciplinary team

· Strong interpersonal skills are a must

· Must either be a certified phlebotomist or be willing to take a phlebotomy course after hire

· High competency with Microsoft Office Suite

· Should be able to demonstrate a distinct interest in our clinical research and in type 1 diabetes. Please visit www.faustmanlab.org for details.

To apply for this position, please submit your information through Handshake and email a resume, cover letter, and transcript to Serena Bradley (sebradley@mgh.harvard.edu). Hired applicant will start work in May/June of 2026 (or earlier if desired).
