Position Description
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is a leading research and educational institution dedicated to exploring fundamental molecular biology and genetics. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Office Assistant to provide crucial clerical support to our Human Resources department. This role involves a variety of administrative tasks aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of HR processes.
Position Responsibilities
- Organizing and maintaining HR department files, including filing, purging, and shredding as needed.
- Compiling orientation packets and assisting with bulk mailings.
- Copying documents and delivering files to designated locations.
- Conducting volunteer orientations and providing support for non-benefit eligible orientations.
- Administering the Form I-9’s and processing background checks for new hires.
- Managing departmental supplies and handling ordering tasks.
- Other special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clerical experience, preferably in an office environment.
Skills: Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when handling supplies or files. Possession of a valid driver’s license for occasional deliveries to satellite locations.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a Human Resources or administrative support role. Familiarity with office equipment such as copiers and shredders. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
