GEO Peer Advisors for 2025-2026 School Year
Note: GEO is hiring three (3) positions:
- Two (2) general Peer Advisors
- One (1) social media-focused Peer Advisor.

As a Global Engagement Office (GEO) peer advisor, you will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in study abroad programs while advising and interacting with students. As a peer advisor, you will be representing the Global Engagement Office with enthusiasm, integrity, accuracy, and spirit of its mission while being mentored by GEO professional staff.
General Requirements, All Positions
- Must be a current student at The College of Wooster.
- Ideally will have studied abroad through GEO, but other study abroad experiences will be considered, such as international students studying at the College of Wooster.
- Strong professional communication, active listening, and public speaking skills
- Able to ask purposeful, open-ended questions, then synthesize information to provide valuable, accurate advising
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Superior customer service skills
- Must be dependable and responsible, able to work independently, and have the ability to work with other students and staff members
- Must be detail-oriented, follow directions, and complete tasks thoroughly & accurately without close oversight
- Experience with marketing and social media management.
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
All Positions:
Student Advising
- Provide preliminary advising to students exploring the possibility of off-campus study during scheduled “GEO 101” sessions, offering them printed materials, internet resources, and referring them to GEO advisors
- Create a personalized “GEO 101” presentation and share that presentation with students one-on-one or in small groups
- Independently analyze student interest and program models to assist students in selecting off-campus programs that will meet their personal, academic, and professional goals
- Work with diverse populations of students
- Learn and apply confidentiality/FERPA
- Provide nuanced advice on off-campus studies, being careful to indicate when you’re unsure about the answers to questions so you never offer inaccurate information.
Events
- Participate in GEO events (e.g., Pre-Departure Orientation, Re-entry, GEO Expo, general outreach through class visits, tabling, etc.)
- Assist with planning, marketing, set up, event activities, and clean up
Other
- Independently manage multiple projects, assignments, and responsibilities as assigned such as data and website management, marketing, etc.
- Analyze and perform basic research on a variety of academic programs
- Organize and prioritize work with a high degree of initiative and independence
- Review and manage physical GEO materials in APEX such as brochures and map pins as needed.
- Serve as a GEO ambassador at all times, positively representing study away and GEO when the opportunity arises.
- Other duties as assigned and co-developed with GEO professional staff
Social Media Peer Advisor Position:
- Work closely with the GEO Director to develop a social media strategy
- Create and disseminate regular social media content
- Moderate and manage GEO social media accounts and posts.
Knowledge
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Navigation of the two GEO web platforms
- Comfort with backend website management a plus
- Social media, graphic design, and publicity are a plus
