This handbook is intended to acquaint students with disabilities with the policies, procedures, resources, and strategies for ensuring access to courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities at The College of Wooster. The Academic Resource Center is the designated office at The College of Wooster that maintains disability-related documents, certifies eligibility for services, determines reasonable accommodation(s), and develops an accommodation plan for each student with a documented disability. Staff and faculty should contact Human Resources for employment services and support.

ADA Compliance Statement:
In compliance with the American Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act which prohibit discrimination based on disability, The College of Wooster is committed to providing equal access to academic programs and college-administered activities.
Under ADA, effective January 1, 2009, a student with a disability is defined as a person with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity, such as walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, working, or caring for oneself. Physical or mental impairments may include, but are not limited to, mobility/orthopedic impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments, speech impairments, specific learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, psychological disabilities, neurological impairments, traumatic brain injury, or chronic medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, or AIDS.
Reasonable accommodations for students are determined on a case-by-case basis when appropriate documentation has been submitted to the Academic Resource Center. Students should work with the Academic Resource Center if they have questions about the application of accommodations in individual courses. Questions regarding the College’s policy for students with disabilities, documentation of the disability, and/or requests for accommodations should be directed to the Director or Assistant Director of Disability Support Services or you may call the office’s direct line at 330-263-2595.
